I am thrilled to be returning to Pedal the Cause again this year. We loved the event in 2013 and want to continue to support this great cause.
Pedal the Cause raises funds for innovative cancer research and gives hope for those who are fighting the disease, those who are survivors and honors those who have passed. Riders fundraise for the event taking place in St. Louis, Missouri on September 27-28th. Cyclists choose to ride varying distances between 15 and 100 miles. In 2013, this was the first athletic event I participated in after Caroline was born. I loved getting back on my bike, talking to other cyclists while riding, and seeing those out on the road pushing and pedaling for a great cause. It was inspirational hearing the survivor stories the night before the race. It made me realize how you can not take you health for granted and how lucky I am to have a healthy family. Cancer can strike anyone at anytime; young and old. I particularly remember a mother who had spoke about going through treatments with pancreatic cancer. She was diagnosed several years prior and mentioned she had a reason to fight; for her three young children. Cancer is a tough emotional and physical battle that takes the strength of a community to help those fighting.
I recently read a biography from Teri Griege, Powered by Hope. I am so inspired by the mental and physical toughness of this women. A mother, wife, and cancer fighter; she empowers me to always stay positive no matter what curveballs life can throw at you. This year, I am returning to ride with her and the team, Powered by Hope. The team is riding once again for a young child, Darnell. His story is explained below:
“On May 11th 2011, DJ was diagnosed with Leukemia. The whole family was shocked. DJ has endured three years of chemotherapy with his big smile rarely leaving his face. On Friday, July 25th DJ rang the bell at St. Louis Children’s hospital signaling the end of treatment! DJ is looking forward to playing football and basketball and taking care of his new baby brother!” 2014,
